1) Where are you located?
Pine Woods Recording is located in northeast Olmsted County, a wooded area just outside city limits away from city noise and traffic but close to Rochester hotels, restaurants, and shopping.
2) How much will I be charged?
Our rate is $75/hr for audio and $650/minute for video which covers just about everything related to producing reference masters, ready for duplication or replication.
3) Am I required to pay up front?
Payment is usually 1/2 down of the estimate, with the balance
to be delivered before reference masters are delivered to the client. A free initial session is scheduled in order to estimate the project. Final costs may vary.
4) Will I have to sign a contract
in order to record with PWR?
No. However, we are required to keep records. For a typical project, the following process is usually used:
- The studio invites you to a free pre-production interview during which
no charge is made. We become aware of your goals/requirements and obtain an understanding
or "feel" for the project timeline, duration, additional equipment, special services,
etc.
- A quotation
is delivered verbally and in writing. You'll provide down payment and signature indicating acceptance of the estimate, terms, and schedule.
- The studio will note progress using
session tracking sheets, either requiring approval after
each session or at selected intervals.
- Final acceptance of the project results in transfer of reference masters and payment balance.
5) I need musicians or announcers
for my project.
The studio has in-house and local talent available to
assist with your project. Minnesota is ripe with artists; we can help you find them.
6) I have a movie project. Can I develop it at PWR?
We do storyboarding and complete video post-production digital non-linear video editing and audio, meaning the same great
audio recording can be integrated into a full-blown music video or feature presentation.
7) I need photos for my project and
help producing the the artwork.
There are high quality artwork services in Rochester and numerous sources in the Twin Cities. We enjoy providing photos for your project,
either taken at the studio or an external shoot location.
8) What kind of equipment does
Pine Woods Recording use?
Both Studio A and Studio B run Digidesign Pro Tools digital-based computer non-linear
editing platforms, Studio A using the HD3 system with 192 I/O, while Studio B uses a MixPlus system with Apogee convertors.
We use Neumann, AKG, Audio Technica, and Shure mics, Neve, True Systens and Presonus preamps, Empirical Labs, FMR,
and DBX processors, Genelec and Yamaha monitors, and Mogami cable to create accurate high quality recordings and mixes. Video Studio C uses Final Cut Studio video editing suite, Canopus video interfaces,
Sony video decks, and Panasonic cameras to create video productions.
9) Can I bring in my own producer?
We offer service ranging from simple engineering to expert production of CD releases or DVD video. We can be as "hands-on" as you
need. Recommendation - try our production, you won't be disappointed!
10) How long will it take to
finish my record my CD or video?
Production is a dynamic process. For audio production a consistent rule-of-thumb is that edit, mix, and master
of a CD will take about the same time span spent recording it. A typical full length CD taking 50 hours to record will usually require 50 hours to finalize. Videos require careful planning, methodical image collection, audio recording, and timeline production.
11) Can I bring my friends to
the production sessions?
Of course, if your guests can help you achieve the success you desire, we will gladly accommodate them. Keep in mind - it's your project!
12) Do you do CD or DVD duplication/replication?
We can make master reference discs for clients. We can provide recommendations for excellent duplication or mass replication facilities in
Minneapolis or via the Web.
13) Do you have an internship
program?
During busy periods we like to accept qualified students looking to acquire experience in the studio. Call or send a resume to P.O. Box 943, Rochester MN 55903.
14) What types of music or video
do you specialize in?
Pine Woods Recording specializes in all types of recording and video production. Singers, bands, songwriters, ensembles, music videos, documentaries, soundtracks...there are few styles
that we have not produced here!
